The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has identified a portion of the Kiangan-Tinoc-Buguias Road in Tinoc, Ifugao as the highest elevation of the Philippine Highway System dethroning Halsema Highway in Atok, Benguet.

The newly identified highest point in Tinoc has an elevation of 7,968.07 feet (2,428.66m) which is 568.07 feet (173.14m) higher than in Atok at 7,400 feet (2,255m).

The DPWH conducted a field assessment last January 2019 to address Tinoc’s municipal resolution of July 2018 requesting for the validation and identification of the new highest point at Gui’ngaw in Tinoc.

A concrete marker will be installed soon.

The 150-kilometer Halsema Highway, opened in 1930, was named after an American engineer Eusebius Julius Halsema who served as the mayor of Baguio City in 1920.
