The New Bohol International Airport in Pangalo Island, dubbed as the “country’s first eco-airport,” is set to open in August 2018 according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The new Php7.8bn airport takes inspiration from the Chocolate Hills with its roof’s multi-curve structure housing the terminal building that can accommodate 2 million passengers per year. It will also feature an external covered area in front of the building for well-wishers.
Utilizing advanced Japanese technology, this eco-friendly facility will use solar energy to cover a third of its energy requirement. It will also maximize use of natural lights and ventilation.
Ten times bigger than Tagbilaran Airport (TAG), its 2,500-meter runway can accommodate 7 aircrafts at a time.
The existing Tagbilaran Airport is the 11th busiest airport in the Philippines with 800,000 passengers a year.
Dubbed as the Green Gateway to the World, it will serve as the premiere gateway to the province and island paradise of Panglao, a thriving tourist destination.
